How to Hire an AEC Marketing Consultant

Have you ever wondered how to go about hiring an AEC marketing consultant? Like when to hire, where to find them, what to pay them, and how to incorporate them into your team.

The number one mistake I see firms make is going to Google or trying to hire off sites like Fiverr or Upwork, which can become a nightmare and cost you more than it saves.

The best consultant for your firm is already somewhere in your network, even if there are a few degrees of separation. Ask others in your industry if they have a referral. Ask trusted teaming partners or other firms that have used a consultant.

Create a hiring post on LinkedIn or use the LinkedIn groups.

Or look into your local marketing association chapters and see if you can find a good fit there, like the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) and the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP).

Then, once you have a few options, please do your due diligence in interviewing the pool and looking into their resumes. When hiring a consultant, “similar experience” won’t cut it.

To get the most ROI, you want to bring on someone with loads of experience in your field. This also helps with seamless onboarding, which puts less pressure and stress on you.
